Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Acton Academy Eastside and our learning approach.

Yes. Learners at Acton Academy Eastside are challenged every day through individualized Core Skills, meaningful projects, and real-world problem solving. Rather than moving at the pace of an entire class, each learner works toward mastery in math, reading, and writing at the level that's right for them. Just as importantly, learners are challenged to think critically, communicate effectively, lead others, and take ownership of their work. Our goal is to develop capable young people — not just strong test takers.

While every studio is unique, most days follow a similar rhythm. Mornings are dedicated to individualized Core Skills, where learners work at their own pace in math, reading, and writing. Afternoons are spent collaborating on hands-on Quests that bring learning to life through science, history, entrepreneurship, the arts, and other real-world challenges. Throughout the day, learners participate in goal setting, discussions, studio responsibilities, and reflection as they practice the habits they'll carry far beyond school.

We measure progress in several ways, rather than relying on a single letter grade or report card. Learners demonstrate mastery before moving on to new concepts, allowing each child to progress at the pace that's right for them. Throughout the year, they also showcase their learning through public Exhibitions, where they present completed work, projects, and skills to families and the community. In addition, learners lead Journey Meetings with their families, reflecting on their growth, discussing challenges, celebrating accomplishments, and setting goals for what's next. Together, these provide a much more complete picture of a learner's progress than a traditional report card alone.

Tuition for the 2026–2027 school year is $17,325, plus a one-time $1,500 enrollment fee due upon enrollment. Tuition is billed over 11 monthly installments and includes everything learners need to fully participate in the Acton Academy Eastside experience, including curriculum, Quest materials, school programming, and field trips. January enrollments are prorated based on the remainder of the school year.

Choosing the right school is an important decision, and we believe it's important to find the right fit for both your family and our community. Our admissions process gives your family the opportunity to experience Acton Academy Eastside firsthand, ask thoughtful questions, and determine whether our approach aligns with your goals.

A Learner Shadow Day gives your child the opportunity to experience Acton Academy Eastside firsthand. Rather than observing from the sidelines, they'll spend the day participating alongside current learners, experiencing our daily rhythm, and getting a feel for what life at Acton Academy Eastside is really like. Depending on your child's age, the Shadow Day may take place over one or two days.

We welcome new learners twice each year — in September and January. Discovery Calls are available year-round, but our admissions process follows a timeline leading up to each enrollment period. We encourage families to begin the process early so there's plenty of time to learn about our approach and determine whether Acton Academy Eastside is the right fit.

No. We believe children need time to play, pursue their interests, spend time with family, and simply be kids. Because learners complete their Core Skills and Quest work during the school day, adults do not assign homework. Learners are always welcome to continue working on a project or pursue additional learning at home, but that's their choice — not an expectation.

Technology is an important tool at Acton Academy Eastside, but it's only one part of the learning experience. Most learners spend approximately 90–120 minutes each day using high-quality learning software for Core Skills. The remainder of the day is spent collaborating on hands-on projects, participating in discussions, reading, writing, creating, and working with peers. In Spark Studio, technology is used sparingly, with a greater emphasis on hands-on learning, play, and exploration.

It depends on the learner and the support they need. Acton Academy Eastside is designed for learners who can participate successfully in our learning environment with the support we provide. While we've successfully served many learners with differences such as dyslexia and ADHD, we aren't equipped to provide the specialized services offered in some traditional school settings. We encourage families to schedule a Discovery Call so we can learn more about your child and determine whether Acton Academy Eastside is the right fit.
